History of Nova Bowmen
The Archery Club Nova Bowmen was formed in 2007 by a group of seven friends, all passionate about the sport of Archery. At the heart of the club was the aim to be a family orientated organisation where mutual support and respect was a central objective as we pursed our common interest of archery. Today that same objective is respected and followed by all members.
From the outset the club was affiliated to the Grand National Archery Association, now called Archery GB as well as to the Yorkshire Archery Association and the Northern Counties Archery Association. That same affiliation applies today.
The start was very basic our equipment was transported by trailer to the farmers field where we shot. Two members trained and became qualified archery coaches in order to expand our membership and offer technical support to members.
In 2009 we were successful in bidding for a £1500 grant from Sport England which provided much needed training equipment to enable us to organise beginners courses and ‘Have a Go events’ in the local area, making the sport of archery more prominent.
Since the start of the club it has changed shooting ranges five times each move improving our facilities and what we are able to offer our members. Currently we are very settled having an excellent facility at Brighouse Sports club to shoot outdoors. The Sports club have made us very welcome and we are now a recognised section of the club. Our indoor range at Roberttown Community centre give us a warm welcoming venue to pursue our sport through the winter months.
